A New Chapter…

After two delightful years of fiber fun, The Knitting Loft closed its doors. But the old adage is certainly true. When one door closes, another one opens! Join us as we continue through The Capitol Hill Guild, an affiliate of The Knitting Guild Association.

The CHKG is the very first knitting guild located in the nation's capital. Click above for more information and to join.

Our Rich Legacy…

The Knitting Loft was all about supporting the local fiber arts community. We offered a cozy place where knitters and crocheters can visit, shop, learn, and create great projects.

This Fox 5 segment highlights the owner, Cheryl Steplight, talking about why she opened the shop. Plus, it includes a few shots of some of our knitters working on projects here at The Knitting Loft. The segment also features Solitude Wool, a Virginia farm that creates yarn made from wool sourced from small sheep farms in the Chesapeake Bay Region. We carry some of their yarns, and it's great because it allows us to source some of our yarns locally, a more sustainable practice.

We offered classes for everyone from beginners to experienced knitters. We even offered a class where parents can learn with their children.

Creating Community

The Knitting Loft is in Historic Capitol Hill, D.C.
Formally located in Historic Capitol Hill, The Knitting Loft was born out of the passion of Cheryl Steplight, a native Washingtonian and knit lover!

Through this fiber arts studio, Cheryl seeks to provide fiber artists with resources for the craft and a cozy place to learn, practice and meet others.

Leaving a Legacy

Leaving a Legacy
It is Cheryl's sincere desire to see the fiber arts expand and thrive. To this end, The Knitting Loft taught the art of knitting to young people from under-served communities within the Nation's Capital.
